Nintendo is in the spotlight right now, as the company is on the verge of unveiling its next console. So people follow almost everything Nintendo does closely. For example, there’s something Nintendo filed with the Federal Communications Commission, or FCC, earlier this weekend.
The company claimed the CLO-001 model with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and a 24GHz mmWave sensor. It’s not labeled with any gaming-related terms, but it’s labeled as a “wireless device.” The code number 001 also implies a completely new product line, as Nintendo already used the code number 001 for the Switch (HAC-001) and Nintendo DS (NTR-001). The device also apparently has no battery, no body-worn accessories, and you have to plug it in to operate it. It is mentioned that this device can be powered via USB-C.
So what is this device? Well, it’s hard to say. Some theories say it’s related to Super Nintendo World. Another theory is that it’s some sort of gesture control interface. It could also be related to AR features. It’s even been suggested that it could be related to things Nintendo tried over a decade ago, like the company’s “Quality of Life” sleep-tracking initiative. Whatever it is, it’s going to get a lot of attention until Nintendo finally reveals its next-generation hardware.
