The traditional Google search widget allows us search for information quickly from the mobile home screen. On Android, the search widget has several customization options: it is possible to change the color, shape and transparency of the widget to adapt it to our home screen.
As you know, iOS users can also use the widget of the Google app on the iPhone home screen. Until now, the search widget on iOS had a search bar and shortcuts to voice search, Lens, and incognito mode.
We can now associate each button of the widget with the shortcut that interests us the most
From 9to5Google, they echo one of the latest changes from Google, which recently updated the search widget in its iOS app with new customization possibilities what we found most interesting. Of course, today these are new features reserved for iPhone users.
One of the changes brought by the widget update is that now we can add a fourth button located under the search bar. And not only that: we will now be able to customize the behavior of all the buttons, allowing us to associate them with the function that interests us the most.
As you can see in the screenshots below, the app allows you to adjust the behavior of each button individually. Specifically, the Google app for iOS allows you to choose between 11 different options:
- Activity
- Gemini
- Homework
- Incognito
- Lens
- Screenshots
- Song search
- Translate
- Translate – Camera
- Translate – Voice
- voice search
HAS change shortcuts We will only have to open the Google application, click on the profile image corresponding to our account (it appears in the upper right corner of the interface) and go to Settings > Widgets, where we will find the different options to which we can associate each button.
At this point, it is important to note that the mentioned changes are not available in the smaller version of the widget for iOS, only in the large version.
As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, the feature we are talking about is exclusive to iOS users. Despite this, The company appears to be working on a similar change for Android: According to Android Authority, the search widget for Android could soon be updated with a shortcut that can be mapped to five different actions.
