How do you end a State of Play show? In today’s show, broadcast from PlayStation on September 24, the answer was to end it with the reveal of Ghost of Yotei, the follow-up to Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima.
The game is set to come out in 2025, and the game’s first cinematic trailer has been released, featuring a female ronin for the first time in the series’ short history. She seems to have a soft spot for wolves, just like Jin Sakai can’t stop playing with foxes.

The trailer’s description provides some plot information, which reads as follows: “In the year 1603, a new ghost named Atsu embarks on a journey to the lands surrounding Mount Yãtei, a region filled with vast grasslands, snowy tundra, and unexpected dangers. Ghost of Yãtei is coming to PS5 in 2025.”
In an announcement on the PS Blog, Sucker Punch communications manager Andrew Goldfarb said, “As we set out to create a new Ghost of Tsushima game, we wanted to preserve the core pillars established in Ghost of Tsushima: playing as a wandering warrior in feudal Japan, giving players the freedom to explore at their own pace, and celebrating the beauty of the world.
“We also wanted to continue innovating. To create something fresh, yet familiar, we went beyond the story of Jin Sakai and Tsushima and shifted our focus to the concept of Ghost. At Sucker Punch, we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it means to have a new hero don the mask of Ghost and to uncover a new legend. This led us to Ghost of Yão Tei: a new protagonist, a new story to unfold, and a new region of Japan to explore.”
Goldfarb also added that this is “Sucker Punch’s first game built for PlayStation 5.” He wrote: “We have huge sightlines that allow you to see distant environments, new skies with stars and auroras, more realistic movement of wind on grass and vegetation, and more improvements to share in the future. Our new setting also gives us the opportunity to introduce new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons.”
It’s worth noting that Mount Yotei is located in the real-world Hokkaido, a northern island of Japan known for its snow. You most likely won’t be skiing in this game, but to be fair, you never know. Sucker Punch is expected to reveal more details about Ghost of Mount Yotei in the “coming months.”
