RoboCop may have been trying for years to get another big screen movie, but the IP is far from dead. Last year, RoboCop: Rogue City wowed us with a very solid AA experience, and now Amazon plans to make the most of the IP after acquiring MGM’s entire library.
Via Variety , we’ve learned that Amazon is fast-forwarding to a RoboCop TV series to be directed by Peter Ocko, who has spent years working on shows like Dinosaurs, Black Sails, and The Office Write a script.

In addition to Oko (who has been locked in as writer, executive producer and showrunner), prolific horror action director James Wan is currently considering a reboot of “Creature from the Black Lagoon”, which he will serve under Atomic Monsters Executive Producer.
Variety also shared the current official synopsis for the show, which reads: “A tech giant teams up with a local police department to launch a technologically advanced law enforcer to combat rising crime – a half-human man. Robot police.” No surprises here.
Perhaps the most interesting thing here is Ocko’s involvement. His resume is impressive, and his work on Dinosaurs, a deeply satirical show with one of the wildest endings in television history, in a new riff on Paul Verhoeven’s original film, It feels perfect. While José Padilha’s 2014 reboot wasn’t entirely terrible, it lacked a lot of the excitement surrounding the original characters and Detroit nature.
If the RoboCop vehicle doesn’t hit too many roadblocks, we might be looking at casting news coming out sometime in 2025. It will be interesting to see who takes on the role of Alex Murphy this time; Peter Weller’s performance is still iconic, but I personally think Joel Kinnaman Performance on reboot wasn’t too bad.
