With Google’s expansion of its artificial intelligence, Gemini will not remain just a Google Assistant, it will expand to other applications. And in Gmail, it has just gained presence: your smart answers appear now for Gemini Advanced users. I was able to try them.
Although I have several email apps on my devices, there is only one that I use regularly on mobile: Gmail. It may not be the most complete or the one that best organizes emails, but, for my use, it is more than sufficient (as I long for the late inbox). Google isn’t integrating too many visible new features into Gmail, but with unbridled interest in AI, Gemini is the perfect Trojan horse.

It’s not that smart replies are anything new in Gmail, since they’ve been on the platform since 2017, no less. Of course, at a basic level and in a schematic way, since Gemini understands the context much better to respond to it very effectively.
As Google announced, Gemini Smart Replies are now available in Gmail for those of us with Gemini Advanced (I got a year free thanks to the Google Pixel 9 Pro). Using these responses, Gemini automatically reads incoming emails and, at the bottom of the communications, suggests contextual answers with different options to choose from. All with expanded text, in language adapted to the tone of the email and with the possibility of extending the draft taking advantage of Gemini itself.
The current downsides, aside from the fact that Gmail offers the service to those with Google One AI? That can only be used in English: Gmail must be configured in this language and they only appear in emails written in English.

And are they practical? The truth is that yes, especially for emails that require concrete and schematic responses: the simplicity of pressing a button, and have the draft written instantlychanges the Gmail experience to a large extent. Especially with another feature I love about Gemini: email digests, as well as email chains. I no longer get lost among the endless threads.

Gemini Smart Replies in Gmail is rolling out to everyone who uses the mail app (also on the web), has Google One AI, and changes the Gmail language to English. As I said, AI suggestions only appear in emails written in English.
