Inside At the THQ Nordic booth at the Tokyo Game Show, we discovered a terrifying area. And no, it’s not just the result of the long queue to play the demo of RANIMAL, the latest game from the creators of Little Nightmares. After entering a dark room, I prepared myself to experience the first 15 minutes of REANIMAL. Once the demo was over, I felt like I had faced one of the big underdogs of this event.
REANIMAL puts us in control of two brothers in a dark and terrifying worldwhile trying to escape from scary enemies moving in the shadows. These have no weapons, except for the occasional brick that will help us fool our enemies. So there is only one option: flee.
The demo gives us a good idea of what to expect from the game. Since we need both characters to perform actions like pushing heavy doors or reaching high places, you can’t go anywhere unless we let’s be together. This adds a puzzle component to the gamebecause there are times when you can’t move forward until you find a way for both children to stay next to each other. And it made some of the demo’s most intense moments even more painful.
Throughout the demo, a gigantic hairy monster with a dozen arms is on our trail. He can’t see you, but he can hear you. At some point, you must move away, avoiding anything that could make the slightest noise
At the end of the demo, the chase begins. I had to push things, jump over broken boards, and quickly crawl through narrow openings to avoid getting caught. Unfortunately, the end of the demo leaves me wondering how these guys are going to get out of this mess, with this huge beast approaching the girl while vomiting up live, faceless humans.
After all this, a game that wasn’t on my radar quickly became one of the most anticipated. REANIMAL is shaping up to be a game that will scare many players once released. And what’s more, players can enjoy it alone or in cooperative mode. So if you don’t think you can face these monsters of the night alone, you can at least find a friend willing to face the darkness together.
