News culture Sauron is not the most powerful being in “Lord of the Rings”: these three characters far surpass him!
Who is the strongest character in a given universe? These are the questions that have animated fan conversations since the advent of pop culture. Dragon Ball, Star Wars, Naruto, etc. No major franchise escapes this eternal debate about the theoretical power (or not) of a particular hero and/or villain, and The Lord of the Rings is no exception. Furthermore, Sauron is not the most powerful being in Middle-earth. Three characters surpass him, each in their own way.
Sauron’s powers
We recently talked about this in a previous article. Sauron, despite his “angelic” nature, is not immortal. It is possible to defeat the servant of Morgoth, the former Valar who became the executioner of Middle-earth in the First Age, using the Silmarils or the Rings of Power. (Read our article on the topic). Going back to the basics laid by British author JRR Tolkien: The Dark Wizard is a Maiaa primordial spirit who came into the world to help the Valar, the “Saints” created by the “Creator God” Eru Iluvatar, build the world.
Once upon a time there was Sauron the Maia, whom the Sindar of Beleriand called Gorthaur. At the beginning of Arda, Melkor seduced him to make him his vassal. He became the greatest and most loyal servant of the enemy and the most dangerous because he could take many forms. For a long time, at his will, he was able to appear so noble and so beautiful that only the most suspicious were not deceived. – (The Silmarillion – The Rings of Power and the Third Age)
Sauron has immense powers, which, as Morgoth’s deputy, he draws particularly from the fire of the earth. The Dark Lord can transform, among other things, to deceive the vigilance of his enemies (mortal men, elves) or to defeat them (sorcerers, a great wolf, a snake, a vampire), to manipulate the spirits (including those of the). Elven people), use magic and change the “substance” of the world solely through their will. He is formidable on the battlefield and becomes even more so when he wears the One Ring.

3 characters “more powerful” than Sauron
According to Lord of the Rings experts who have traveled extensively in Middle-earth and studied the writings of JRR Tolkien, there are three characters who are “more powerful” than Sauron. The first and most obvious of these is none other than Tom Bombadil who makes a notable appearance in Season 2 of Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video. But who is he really? Its nature is not precisely defined by the author. We know from reliable sources that he is the Lord of the Old Forest and the Barrows, that he is the first living being to set foot on Middle-earth, and that he is therefore immortal. Not only is he impervious to the powers of the One Ring, but he also controls the elements and beings through humming.
Sauron’s former master aka Morgoth is a corrupt former Vala who rebelled against his fellow humans and declared himself lord of Middle-earth. After the War of Wrath, the one who once answered the name Melkor is defeated and thrown into the void. After Eru Iluvatar, the first Dark Lord is considered the most powerful “Saint” in this universe. At the height of his power, he is capable of tearing down oceans, collapsing mountains, and corrupting the earth. Among other things, he can create firestorms and huge craters and curse his enemies. Even more surprising is the third most powerful being in Middle-earth.
Samsagace Gamegie Said The Brave is a hobbit from the Shire who accompanied Frodo Baggins on his journey to destroy the One Ring by throwing it into the lava of Mount Doom. Sam possesses no supernatural powers other than an iron will, unwavering courage and loyalty, and increased resistance to the forces of the Ring. As he carries it to briefly free Frodo from this burden, he is assaulted by idyllic visions, but fights back. Even the thousand-year-old elf Galadriel and the magician Gandalf refuse to touch it for fear of being corrupted. Samwise Gamge is undoubtedly the most powerful (spiritually) mortal character in Middle-earth.
