Hironobu Sakaguchi, widely known as the creator of the beloved Final Fantasy game series, said in a new interview that he was fully aware of cheating Nintendo with the PlayStation back when the original PlayStation launched. Sakaguchi famously rejected Nintendo’s newest console at the time, the Nintendo 64, and revealed that Final Fantasy VII would be a PlayStation exclusive. The game sold a huge amount of copies worldwide and helped make the PlayStation brand a major competitor to Nintendo and SEGA,
“I look back on my career and I really got a lot of my start from the NES and Nintendo. So without the NES, I’d say none of this would have been possible, but then, you know, I cheated on Nintendo and went to PlayStation, but whether it was Nintendo or Sony, I think both of those companies were additionally up to Final Fantasy VI on they sort of represent my origin story in terms of my career development.”
