Fans of the engrossing Avatar: The Last Airbender series should have something to celebrate tonight as it has been revealed that Saber Interactive and Paramount Game Studios have teamed up to create a AAA Avatar video game. IGN reports that the game is still in early development and is planned for both consoles and PC, with the publication describing it as “the biggest video game in the franchise’s history”. The game will put players in the shoes of an “all-new, never-before-seen Avatar” and is set in the same universe as Avatar: The Last Airbender. Let’s hope the game lives up to its potential.
“We know that loyal fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender have been eager for more stories that introduce them to the series’ universe, and through gameplay we can expand the world-building and allow fans to experience new content in a fully immersive way,” said Doug Rosen, SVP, Games and new media at Paramount. “Sabre Interactive has a proven track record of bringing games based on IP to life, and we’re excited to co-finance this AAA title alongside them and allow fans to experience this world firsthand.”
“At Saber, we’re all real fans of the IP we work with,” said Josh Austin, Head of IP Development and Licensing, Saber Interactive. “Our team members are some of the most dedicated, passionate creatives and we are honored to join forces with Avatar Studios and Paramount Games to further expand the Avatar Legends universe in video games. This unique co-financing structure is the result of our ever-expanding partnership with Paramount, which began more than a decade ago with WWZ, and we’re excited about what’s on the horizon.”
