Pokémon Go has one Sewaddle Community Day event on Saturday, October 5th, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m in your local time.
As expected at a Community Day event, Sewaddle will appear in large numbers and will most likely look shiny. There are also a few other bonuses and perks that we have listed below.
How do I catch a shiny sewaddle?
According to old research from the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are around 1 in 24, meaning that if you keep playing during the three-hour window, you should find quite a few Shiny Pokémon.
If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an incense stick and then quickly tap each Sewaddle to look for shiny ones and run away from any that aren’t shiny. In particular, any sewaddles you’ve already tapped will be aligned with your player’s position, making it easier to see which sewaddles you may have already checked.
What Community Day step does Sewaddle’s development learn?
If you evolve Swadloon into Leavanny between 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. your local time, it will learn fast movement Shadowclaw.
If you fail to evolve it during this period, you can probably evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Shadow Claw. If you don’t want to wait, you can do the move with an Elite TM.
How does Leavanny perform in the meta?
Leavanny is a “just good” bug attacker for PvE content, but even with his best moveset (Bug Bite and X-Scissor) he can’t beat Heracross, Pinsir, and higher-investment picks like Pheromosa and Genesect (predictably).
Leavanny is also of little use in PvP. While the addition of Shadow Claw to his moveset is new, it doesn’t significantly improve his rankings or bring anything groundbreaking.
How do I make the most of Sewaddle Community Day?
The following bonuses will be active during Sewaddle Community Day:
- 1⁄4 hatch distance for eggs laid in incubators during the event
- Double candies for catching Pokémon
- Double chance for trainers level 31 and above to receive XL Candies by catching Pokémon
- The incense lasts three hours
- Lure Modules last three hours
- Sew special photobombs when taking snapshots
- An additional special trade
- Stardust trading costs have been halved
That said, you should definitely place your eggs in incubators, pop an incense stick, and try to grab a strong sewaddle.
If you can mega evolve Venusaur, Beedrill, Pinsir, Scizor, Heracross, Sceptile, or Abomasnow, you will receive additional Sewaddle Candies per catch. Using Primal Reversion on Kyogre or Groudon also works.
Additionally, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., where Sewaddle will spawn within a 300-meter radius of the gym for 30 minutes if you complete the Swadloon raid. These raids cannot be carried out remotely. If the usual spawn increase at 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. doesn’t result in the desired sewaddle, you can try again with a raid.
