Complaints about movies that adapt comics, video games and animated series are not exactly new. Changes to iconic characters have always been frowned upon, from the slightest physical alterations to more far-fetched issues such as the level of their powers. And of course, it goes without saying that Transformers was not the exception.
The Transformers saga did not exactly evolve in the best direction, to put it mildly. This made releasing any new related movie or series a delicate matter. However, Transformers from 2007 managed to make us jump out of our chairs with pure emotion… but even so it didn’t escape being seen with a magnifying glass by the fans.
One of the points that most bothered many fans of Transformers is that Bumblebee was not a Volkswagen Beetle. It ended up taking the form of the classic 1977 Chevrolet Camaro, although it changed shortly after to the 2006 Chevrolet Camaro Concept after getting upset with Sam for criticizing its appearance. Luckily, he did have the look desired by fans in the 2018 film.
Why didn’t the most conservative fans like it? Bumblebee was for many years a Volkswagen Beetle in animated series and comics. It is a very loved and adorable car, which suited his teenage personality more. Although Michael Bay never wanted this shape because he wanted to avoid confusion with Herbiethe reality is that Volkswagen did not give its consent to use the car for the character. Even so, Bay snuck the car into the film, perhaps as a joke and/or as a reference.
