Do you miss Chrono Trigger? This game is made for you

Chrono, game, Trigger

Do you want to rediscover the sensations of the legendary Chrono Trigger, but on current platforms? Recently a new game was announced and a trailer was revealed. It’s great.

Chrono trigger has still not lost its title as one of the best JRPGs of all time. A cult work partly developed by Takashi Tokita (Parasite Eve) and Yoshinori Kitase (FF7) and published by Square Enix. In a time full of remakes and remasters, it’s not out of the question that the game will come back. Kitase-san even mentioned the possibility of a port, remaster or remake along the lines of FF7 Remake. It’s not on the agenda, but maybe that will change if fans make their voices heard…

A new spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger has left an indelible mark on many people, especially current developers. For example, it is one of the main inspirations, if not the main inspiration, for Sabotage Studio’s JRPG Sea of Stars (The Messenger). During the Tokyo Game Show 2024, Riyo Games and Humble Games unveiled with great fanfare Threads of time. A turn-based RPG that doesn’t hide its similarity to Chrono Trigger.

“Threads of Time is a turn-based role-playing game inspired by timeless classics from multiple eras. Embark on a journey through time, bringing together a group of heroes from different eras and uncovering a conspiracy that threatens to destroy the past, present and future.”. Just looking at the graphics or the timing of the scenario, it’s hard to avoid thinking of Chrono Trigger. However, the staging is much more dynamic and of course the game offers much more advanced graphics for a great result.

This retro RPG, introduced at the Xbox Showcase at TGS 2024, will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. However, the release date is currently unknown. If you miss Chrono Trigger, this game is probably made for you and we’ll let you judge from this gameplay trailer.
