This British series, beloved by crime fiction fans, which has been on hiatus since 2017, could well return, although not necessarily in its original format. More than seven years after the fourth season, the continuation of the adventures of Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous character could well be coming to cinemas!

A long pause

For many years, fans of American series have been lucky enough to watch A new season almost every yearwith an average of around ten episodes per year. A privilege that doesn’t necessarily extend to British productionsas we could see Peaky Blinders whose seasons were sometimes 2 to 3 years apart with 6 episodes each, but especially with Sherlockwhich used a similar pattern to only 3 episodes per season (90 minutes though).

In other words, fans of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes et John Watson The BBC still has patience left, even seven years after the broadcast of its fourth season, which, remember, is not the final end of the series Steven Moffat. According to Moffat and Mark Gatissthe creators of SherlockA fifth season was already planned in 2018, but this could not take place due to scheduling problems related to the roles of Benedict Cumberbatch et Martin Freeman within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll never come back for a final checkup…

Patience is the mother of Vertue

In fact, in an interview with deadline on the occasion of a related event Amazon Prime Videothe producer of the series, Sue Vertuesuggested that Sherlock had a future. Even if the sets are gathering dust somewhere in the closet, the series has far from said its last word for them. As stated above, this is nothing more and nothing less than an organizational matter, but the actors, creators and producers would be willing to continue the adventure.

We love this series, we are convinced that it has a future. A day. Perhaps. If everyone wants to do it. I still have the set in storage somewhere, but to be honest it’s probably moldy. It’s just a matter of getting everyone together and getting the actors to do it.

Sue Vertue, Deadline

The producer’s words match those of Mark Gatiss Earlier this year, he spoke of the team’s desire to “make a film” but that it was “difficult to get everyone together.” In other words, everyone is ready to continue the series in one way or another, but the actors’ busy schedule is causing problems. We will therefore undoubtedly have to wait until the planets (and calendars) align to see the conclusion Sherlock. But the fact that the makers of the series are bringing the topic back to the table in 2024 is a pretty good sign, especially with the film Peaky Blinders on the horizon.
