Rings of Power season 2 ended in grand style with the epic appearance of the Balrog and the confirmed destruction of Eregion. Fans of the Amazon series now have to be patient until the third season is expected to become official soon. To wait in the best conditions, the JV editorial team recommends you to discover this very good video game “The Lord of the Rings”, available through Game Pass for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
Extend your journey to Middle-earth with Game Pass
The Lord of the Rings is one of the most adapted literary and cinematic video game franchises, even if it does not reach the production volume of Star Wars or Batman. While certain projects have recently discredited the universe outlined on paper by JRR Tolkien in the 20th century, most notably Daedalic Entertainment’s Gollum, others have managed to pay homage to it and even enrich it. The best adaptation ever produced, 17 years after its release, remains the immortal MMO The Lord of the Rings Online. Additionally, the future expansion “The Legacy of Morgoth,” expected in late 2024, will reveal the dark secrets of the first Dark Lord and Master of Sauron.
Over time, other video games have also emerged, be they projects based on films by Peter Jackson or the real-time strategy games “The Battle for Middle-earth”. In a completely different register, The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, Shadow of War, developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros Games, offer fans a dark and bloody epic set in the heart of the lands of the Dark Wizard. The second is currently available on Game Pass on Xbox One (Xbox Series X/S compatible) and PC.

The Shadow of War and its Nemesis System
Shadow of War will be released in 2017 and follows the events told in Shadow of Mordor. In the first part of this diptych, which takes place between “The Hobbit” and “The Fellowship of the Ring”, the family of the ranger and protector of Gondor Talion is massacred before his eyes before he is murdered in turn. When he rises from the dead, he travels to Mordor to take revenge on Sauron and his orc legions. As dead as he is alive, at the beginning of the second episode our hero forges a unique new ring on Mount Doom with the help of the spirit of the elven blacksmith Celebrimbor in the hope of overthrowing the Dark Lord.
The artifact is eventually stolen by a mysterious individual who declares himself an enemy of Sauron, while the city of Minas Ithil is besieged by the Legions of Mordor, who want to get their hands on a Palantir hidden there. The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of War received critical acclaim upon its release. The press particularly highlights the Nemesis system, which has since been patented by Warner Bros. Games. This game mechanic creates close connections between Talion and certain orcs through the encounters and battles that shape the adventure. This adds depth to the enemies and helps turn the undead ranger’s vengeful quest into a personal epic.
