A group of former members of the original development team for RPG darling Disco Elysium have today released their first new game under their new UK studio: XXX Nightshift. No, you won’t get déjà vu – it did happen twice in one day, and the news comes hot on the heels of the announcement of Longdue, another indie studio from former Disco employees.
The first game from Dark Math Games will be a single-player sci-fi RPG with tremendous depth and unique mechanics.
In “XXX Nightshift”, players take on the role of “Patrol Agent” Dinorah Katz in 2086. Katz is trapped in a luxury ski resort in Antarctica with a cast of characters. You’ll solve crimes and team up with companions to role-play and uncover the mysteries of the resort and its inhabitants.
You’ll interrogate suspects, participate in sci-fi world-twisting mechanics, and make a host of story-changing decisions.
“In addition to innovating traditional RPG mechanics, we will also bring something fresh,” said Timo Albert, co-founder of Dark Math Games. “Sure, less words. And maybe a few bullets. All in all: more fun.”
The studio is the latest product of the corrupt atmosphere surrounding Disco Elysium developer ZA/UM – a maze of briefings, counter-briefings and horror stories. After key figures stormed out of the studio, the writing was on the wall – but from those ashes emerged new studios, the latest of which is Dark Math.
XXX Nightshift is now available on Steam, ready to be added to your wishlist. A release date is still to be determined.
