Unfortunately, the Spanish studio Tequila Works (RiME, Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story) is not in the best shape and announces two pieces of bad news.

After a chaotic development, Tequila Works was able to release RiME exclusively for PS4 in 2017. An exception that has since been skipped as the title has been ported to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. And if we could have feared the worst, upon arrival the players ended up winning the game. At that time, Plume awarded the grade 9/10 “Fantastic” with the Essential badge. “A simple, uncomplicated, seductive, mysterious game that triggers a little emotional big bang when you understand its meaning, with an ending that leaves you speechless.”. In a statement, the studio of this artistic gem announces that it has made difficult decisions for the future.

A bad patch for the RiME studio

A few years after RiME, the Spanish independent studio surprised by taking on the LoL franchise with Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, released in 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC . The Iberian team also tried, among other things, the Stadia adventure with Gylt, but the title did not find an audience. What’s next? Tequila Works, like many other players in the video game industry, will go through a difficult period. “It is with great regret that we have to inform you of our decision to cancel an unannounced game. This difficult decision means we will be restructuring the studio to focus on developing a single game.” the company said in a LinkedIn post.

Nothing is known about this canceled mystery game, except that it probably doesn’t affect RiME. « These changes will impact a small number of positions within the studio. This is an incredibly difficult time and our aim is to provide support and advice to those affected » states the message from Tequila Works. In addition to canceling an unannounced game, the RiME studio is unfortunately forced to lay off some of its staff. At the moment we have no information about the only title that will be produced by the developers, but we should probably expect careful art direction.
