There is a leadership change at Xbox Game Studios and Craig Duncan becomes the new head.
In November 2023, it was announced that Alan Hartman would take over the leadership of Xbox Game Studios. However, Alan Hartman has resigned from his post and is now being replaced by Craig Duncan, the boss of RARE.
Joe Neate and Jim Horth are now taking the lead at RARE as co-leads of RARE.
“Alan’s career has been one of innovation, dedication and an unwavering passion for games,” Booty wrote in an email to employees, gamesindustry.biz reports.
“Alan started as a contractor at Microsoft in 1988 in the fledgling CD-ROM group and has worked on a variety of projects in his time here, from Age of Empires to Brute Force as studio head of Digital Anvil to the founding of Turn 10.”
“Over the years, Alan, Turn 10 and Playground Games have developed 13 Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon games, making Forza one of the best racing game series in the world and regularly pushing the limits of our hardware. His work promoting accessibility in the gaming industry has set a benchmark for the industry.”
“Under his leadership, Xbox Game Studios has released several critically acclaimed titles this year and set the stage for highly anticipated games such as Avowed, South of Midnight, Fable and more.”
He added: “In his new role, Craig will continue to focus on helping our studios deliver high-quality, differentiated gaming experiences that can grow into successful franchises and reach more players through investment in new IP.”
Craig is also handling the release of numerous new games in 2025, such as Fable, South of Midnight and possibly even Gears of War: E-Day. This will be joined by DOOM: The Dark Ages and the next Call of Duty. While Halo Studios quietly works on new Halo games.
