If you own an LG OLED TV, you might just be in for a big and exciting software upgrade, free of charge, and much sooner than expected.
LG’s webOS 24 was previously exclusive to its latest OLED TVs such as the C4 and G4. However, if you own last year’s C3 or G3, you’ll also be able to access this new operating system, which includes a few new bonus features, including one that many users will be delighted with.
Users with an Android smartphone can finally use Google Chromecast to play content on their portable device on the big screen. This includes YouTube videos, as well as images on Google Photos.
According to Flat Panels HD, the new operating system began appearing on TVs in the United States and Europe and was later confirmed directly by LG. However, the rollout is gradual, so don’t panic if your TV is still running webOS 23. If you’re in America, you may be able to update it manually using a USB drive.
Other features of the free upgrade include Voice ID, which can recognize your voice to log you in and offer personalized features. The sports portal offers a quick guide to the schedule, scores and even odds of a team of your choice, while the new Chatbot offers new ways to resolve any problem using your voice.
Additionally, Quick Cards is a way to organize home screen menus. And the update adds Dolby Vision Filmmaker mode to the C3 and G3’s selection of picture presets, according to Flatpanels HD.
The update was originally scheduled to arrive next year, so it’s a welcome treat for LG TV owners. But what if you own a 2023 model that isn’t the C3 or G3?
Other sites like TechRadar and HDTVTest say they expect the update to also hit the more affordable OLED B3 model, as well as QNED and 8K LED TVs at some point, but we don’t know again when this will be the case.
