The first portable console using augmented reality arrives on Kickstarter

arrives, Augmented, Console, Kickstarter, portable, reality

It is increasingly common to see portable consoles appear that seek to offer spectacular performance or that have much better support and compatibility than those we already have, but that is not the only thing that matters in these cases, because there are models that seek to innovate beyond offering basic improvements. In this case, one of those portable consoles that want to change the way of playing is the Go pocketa model that we saw presented a few months ago, which is now available on Kickstarter and which stands out for the integration of the augmented reality to a console portable.

When we talk about portable consoles, it is normal that the first thing that comes to mind is the format that made the Steam Deck fashionable, with a size and power that offers the possibility of playing any of our favorite titles anywhere. It is something that is evolving more and more, and many companies have developed their own console, offering performance, as well as certain functions, that end up surpassing what the Steam Deck offers, but there are others who want to go further, like the Pocket Go which uses augmented reality instead of a traditional screen.

A portable console very different from the others, it does not include a screen

Many people may think that current handheld consoles are anything but portable, and there is the problem that they can be excessively large for some people, since the fact that they have the screen integrated with the rest of the hardware, in ultimately gives it considerable size. But this new model wants to avoid this, since its size is not much larger than that of a console controller, since it has the advantage of not integrating a screen, but of being able to be linked to no any device.

It’s actually a computer in the form of a controller that can then be connected directly to all types of peripherals, including normal monitors, wearable displays, or augmented reality glasses. In this case, the portable console is currently on Kickstarter with a series of different configurations from which we can choose, since there are two variants for RAM and storage, since we can choose between 16 and 32 GB of RAM as well as between 512 GB and 1 TB of storage.

The device has a processor Ryzen 7 8840HS of AMDwhile the strong point would be in the AR glasses that it integrates, which according to what they indicate, allow it to offer a Micro OLED screen up to 215 inches. In this case we can purchase the console and the glasses separately, the device itself has a price that varies between $496 and $644 (if we count the early bird discount), while the glasses cost around $322.

The company that created them obviously offers the possibility of purchasing packs of both devices, so we can get the 16 GB+512 GB model with the glasses for $801, or the 32 GB+1 TB model also with the glasses for around $966.
