YouTube shorts should open up more possibilities as a new feature. The feature is likely to compete primarily with Chinese video portal TikTok. Google will not use features of other social media services for the first time.

TikTok is not a classic video platform, only small clips can be uploaded here. As the success story of the Chinese video service shows, the concept is very successful. There are good reasons for Google to use its own YouTube shorts service. The area is mainly targeted at the younger generation, who have lost their way to competition in the form of TikTok. YouTube shorts may win that customer branch.
YouTube shorts: the feature's release date is still open
When completed, YouTube shorts should be launched primarily in the mobile YouTube app. This makes content faster, more accessible, and strongly reminiscent of rival TikTok. Scrolling through the feed is easy, and because the video is short, it's much easier to use. In any case, the length of the clip is unknown. TikTok previously limited the video duration to a maximum of 15 seconds.
Unfortunately, the report does not show when YouTube shorts will be available. In any case, this is not the first time Google has been inspired by other service ideas. For example, the YouTube app already offers story-like features, as we know from Instagram or Snapchat.
Instagram also tried its own short video app. This is called Boomerang, but it has not been a success for TikTok. The number of users did not meet expectations. After all, the application is still under maintenance and only received major updates with many new features at the beginning of the year. Whether YouTube shorts can also become a niche product remains to be seen.
