The full list of unlockable weapons in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been revealed, and the community is rejoicing. It’s not because there’s some kind of gun. Rather, it’s due to a certain lack in the arsenal available. The riot shields were gone. May it disappear forever.
Pure joy can be found online, whether on Reddit during the beta or now on Twitter. Few things can unite the Call of Duty community so completely, but Riot Shield seems to have achieved that goal.

For those of you who don’t know how sensational the Riot Shield is, frankly, you’re in luck. Anyone who has used a riot shield can tell you that front walls made of ballistic material can prove to be very frustrating for those who crave the association with gunfights and typical run-and-gun operations. Add to that the fact that when the riot shield is retracted it blocks shots from behind and you can see how annoying it can be.
But it gets worse! At their peak, riot shield users in multiplayer and Warzone would run around with stun grenades and riot shields, and use the stun period to run forward and beat you to death. Or, if they’re feeling good, they’ll switch to a pistol and shoot you while you’re out of sight. It’s pure hell and no fun for anyone else.
This is just one more reason why Black Ops 6 is getting so much love ahead of its full release this week. Little things like removing riot shields put the game in a great position to win hearts and minds. Whether that’s the case, we’ll know in a few days. Frankly, even if the game isn’t as good as we’d hoped, the lack of a riot shield makes the game more engaging by default.
