In December of this same year, James Gunn will kick off the new DC Studios Cinematic Universe with Creature Commandos. The director has stressed on numerous occasions that the canon will be almost completely reset, and we say “almost” because there will be some exceptions.
During last weekend, the American filmmaker explained, during the New York Comic-Conhow the Snyderverse’s “usable” canon will connect to the new canon. And while at first this may seem confusing, it seems that there will not be much mystery, since mentions will be made of events that link some old stories with the new ones.
“There are references to things that happened in the past, and those references become canon in the DCU because we mention them,” explained Gunn, who alluded, for example, to some events that occurred during The Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker that connect directly with the character played by Frank Grillo, Rick Flag Sr.
Gunn also commented that it is very likely that we will see many actors from the old universe return with a completely different role, as is the case with the rumored return of Jason Momoa as Lobo. Creature Commandos will arrive in Max on December 5, 2024, while Superman will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
