350,000 people are waiting for Jump Ship on Steam – and they have to continue to be patient. Because the science fiction title with a co-op focus, spaceships and impressive technology is officially abandoning its release plans this year.

To make Jump Ship the “best possible experience,” developer Keepsake Games is postponing the release to 2025. As before, this is only the early access version for now.

An early pre-alpha left a huge impression on us when we were able to play it in the spring:

In one Post on platform X (formerly Twitter) explains game director Filip Coulianos the great demand after the space game (65th place in the global Steam wishlists) and the expected server load contributed to the decision.

More stability

They want to use the additional time to get the “passion project” of the small Swedish development team (a few 20 employees) ready for the big event:

»At the beginning of next year we want to expand the testing phase outside the office (closed beta). Initially, a select group of testers from the community will be given access, play and provide us with feedback. As the game becomes more stable, we will expand this group organically.«

The great potential of Jump Ship was already clear to us from the first gameplay, you can find out more about it in the preview video:

Filip Coulianos says that the development team on Jump Ship wants to “continue working for quite a while after launch.” With regard to the release postponement, he adds: “We look forward to sharing it with you when the time is right.” And:

»I know you are all very eager to get your hands on the game and we will be as open as possible over the next few months [sein, Anm. d. Red.]. Expect us to reveal a lot more about the game over the next year.”

Small but mighty!

Jump Ship is designed for four players. In co-op, you complete a large number of individual missions that take you to planets or asteroid fields.

Always with you: your spaceship, which can be upgraded between orders, in which all team members take on specific roles. So one person controls the ship, while someone else distributes the energy, a third shoots at opponents with guns and the fourth puts out fires.

You can see some examples of this in the screenshot gallery:

The technology based on the Unity Engine allows players to fire hand weapons while standing on the hull of the spaceship or move freely using a jetpack and grappling hook. Boarding maneuvers are also possible in this way; In between, there are outdoor missions against robot enemies in classic first-person shooter style.

Jump Ship will not feature PvP battles, but will feature an optional single player mode.
