Five years after The Rise of Skywalker, the next Star Wars film brings news in the sequel episode 9, and its future seems in jeopardy.
Approximately ten Star Wars films are scattered across the galaxy and are in various stages of development. One of them is dedicated to Rey, the main character of the controversial Postlogy, played by Daisy Ridley. The Force doesn’t appear to be with the unofficial last member of the Skywalker family, if recent developments about her are to be believed.
A shot of a-Rey at one of the many Star Wars films in the stars
As we wait for more news on upcoming Star Wars films, including the final film in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka Tano series, expected in May 2026, unrest is emerging in the Force regarding the continuation of Rey’s adventures . As a reminder, this film was directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who is best known for her engaging documentaries about the situation of women. Last year we learned that Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) was taking over as screenwriter for this film, replacing Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Justin Britt-Gibson.
But the rest of the Star Wars postlogy will ultimately do without him. Steven Knight did indeed left the projectand the film about Rey is once again without a screenwriter. As a reminder, this film is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2026. However, he could be the subject of one report if a new screenwriter is not found quickly. Has the power therefore abandoned the character played by Daisy Ridley after the postlogy received a very cold reception? The future is difficult to predict, as Master Yoda would say.
In any case, projects related to Star Wars, at Disney as elsewhere, seem to be having a lot of difficulties at the moment. The Acolyte series was canceled after just one season and Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws is unfortunately an intergalactic flop. Hopefully this is just a temporary break in power and the franchise will find its footing again soon.
