Using upscaling techniques to improve the performance of games on your PC is basically part of the setup process. Even if you discount the fact that many games won’t run at acceptable frame rates without it, many games will definitely see a nice frame rate boost thanks to DLSS, FSR, or Intel XESS.

As a modern game, Black Ops 6 does support all three, but it doesn’t look like they’re doing anything right now.

That’s according to multiple players on Reddit, who all reported little performance improvement when using DLSS, FSR, and XESS. In fact, according to one player who tested on two different computers, turning on the upgrade may even cause Worse Performance.

Reddit user Important_Shake_1491 shared their test results in a Reddit thread, showing that in most cases, performance drops significantly when using the upgrade, which shouldn’t be the case. DLSS is the only technology that can improve performance, but sacrificing clarity may not be worth the less than 10% increase in frame rate.

They added: “The spatial upgrades (NIS, FSR1) seem to work without crazy performance drops, but this is sub-optimal as the game has been working on its own anti-aliasing since Modern Warfare 2019 Advanced form of upgrades built into it.”

Obviously, this doesn’t make sense, so one can naturally conclude that there is a bug causing this unusual behavior. Other players report that frame generation (also supported by Black Ops 6) does work, but not everyone is happy to turn it on because of the input lag it introduces.

Treyarch hasn’t responded yet, but considering how many players rely on upgrades for better performance, we’re sure to get some recognition sooner rather than later. Until then, you should probably run in-game benchmarks to see if the upgrade has any impact on game performance, rather than assuming it will.
