Eight years after the last canonical work of the Arkham saga, the last part of the video game dedicated to Batman has enjoyed real critical success since its release.

Batman at his best

It’s now been eight years since gamers had the chance to play a Batman Arkham work. And if the series finds it difficult to regain the success of its first days, Batman: Arkham Shadow finally manages to turn things around. On Metacritic, this new game achieved a score of 83/100 at the time of writing. For comparison: Batman Arkham VR had achieved a score of 74/100 upon its release in 2016. We therefore note significant progress for this latest game, which also adopts virtual reality but in a more complete and sophisticated form.

Under the mask of the Black Knight

For this new installment, Rocksteady hands over to Camouflaj, a team that works under the Oculus Studios banner and has evolved significantly republic et Marvel’s Iron Man VR. The studio therefore knows the subject very well and is excellent at adapting the adventures of a superhero into a video game. The title is also part of the Arkham canon and is placed in between Batman Arkham Origins et Batman Arkham Asylum. Arkham Shadow benefits from a structure similar to that of the very first opus, offering players the opportunity to travel through multiple compartmentalized but relatively large environments, all with the essence of the Arkham experience through alternating combat and investigation phases. Arkham Shadow is better than Arkham VR and therefore perfectly manages to transfer the core of the license to virtual reality. It would be a shame for equipped players to miss out.
