Microsoft has recently been increasingly relying on a multiplatform strategy with the publication of Xbox exclusive games for the PlayStation 5. But after criticism, the pace could now be slowed down a bit in the future.
For months it has been a hot topic, especially for Xbox fans: Microsoft has been relying on a multiplatform strategy since the beginning of the year in order to work more profitably in the future and generate more sales. The first Xbox exclusive games have also been brought to Switch and PlayStation – and this venture will also affect blockbusters in the future.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was recently confirmed for PlayStation 5, for example, although the release for the Sony console should take place relatively close to the actual Xbox release. This caused a certain amount of outcry and criticism in the Xbox community – and that has apparently reached the Xbox team.
The criticism that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released for PS5 early in 2025 – and therefore only a short time after the PC and Xbox release in December 2024 – has behind the scenes, according to a renowned insider, for movement and for a Rethinking ensured.
The insider eXtas1s, who has often leaked news about the Xbox Game Pass in the past and is considered to be well connected in the Xbox cosmos, is now reporting that Microsoft is either “pausing” the PS5 ports of its own Xbox exclusive games for the moment or at least “slowed down”. However, there is no general departure from the multiplatform strategy communicated at the beginning of the year. However, the criticism from the Xbox community has at least led to the project being re-evaluated to a certain extent.
While future PlayStation implementations from Microsoft could take longer to arrive than will be the case with Indiana Jones, Microsoft has also drawn further red lines in this context: According to eXtas1s, the big action series Halo and Gears will probably be on Xbox -remain exclusive and are probably off the table for multiplatform implementations for the moment.
There is no official statement from Microsoft on this matter, so it remains to be seen whether the insider is right with his information in this case too.
