Rare’s beautiful sequel to the Banjo-Tooie platformer has arrived in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack N64 library today, and we’re relishing the opportunity to once again bring our best bear and bird buds on the road.
Overall, this NSO build seems great, but as we left the game sitting idly on the home screen while we nibbled to make a cuppa, we noticed something odd: is Banjo always this fast?
Yes, the gameplay demo, which plays if you don’t touch the home screen for a while, appears to be strangely sped up on the Switch subscription service. This was pointed out by our lovely person, Mr. Alex Olney Blueskyin fact, with the following shot showing the platform pair dashing around at 1.5x speed (or thereabouts).
It’s a weird little quirk, especially since the sound effects and music work at the correct speed/tone. Hey ho, at least the whole game doesn’t force us to unintentionally speed.
Originally launched on the N64 in 2000, Banjo-Tooie later received re-releases on the Xbox 360 and as part of the 2015 A rare replay. While it may not be as beloved as its predecessor, it’s still considered a mighty fine platformer — all the more reason to be excited about the Switch’s inclusion, accelerated demo and all.
