News culture Netflix doesn’t just have series, films and anime: the SVOD service offers the most famous sports competition in the world!
Netflix is working hard to finally reach the symbolic milestone of 300 million subscribers worldwide in 2024. This SVOD service has been focused on the production of original content, especially series, films and anime, for many years, but it intends to invest in a new market – that of sports – and not just any market. We’re talking about the number 1 sport in the United States.
NFL Kickoff on Netflix
Last May, we learned that Netflix had acquired the rights to several NFL games (for the National Football League). The four meetings take place during Christmas, more precisely on D-Day, December 25th. In 2024, it will be the games between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers at 7:00 p.m. and the Baltimore Ravens against the Houston Texans at 10:30 p.m. (Paris time) that will delight fans of the discipline. We currently do not know which ones will be made available to subscribers in 2025 and 2026
Netflix paid the modest sum of $75 million to acquire the rights to these meetings, which bring together millions of viewers primarily in North America, but not only. And by analyzing television viewers in the United States, we understand why the streaming platform spends so much on this sport. In 2023, the top 14 viewers in the US were NFL games, while 39 were in the TOP 50. To meet subscribers at the end of December 2024, Netflix has just released a trailer (see above).
