A few days ago I was talking with my friends from Xataka Android and Mobile about a subject that made me investigate and ask my colleague Alberto de la Torre, specialized in mobility: time change in cars. And over the years, with the time change, I’ve had to change this setting manually. I have a 2015 Volkswagen Polo without Android Auto as standard, but with an external screen.

Here we come to the million dollar question: Android Auto (and Apple CarPlay) connects the vehicle system to the mobileso if the phone only changes the time automatically, theoretically all the clocks in the vehicle should also change and therefore also that on the dashboard.

There are brands and models that resolve the dashboard in different ways and if we stick to cars equipped with a screen with Google’s infotainment system, the reality is that a car of five years ago is not the same as one from today. In any case, Are all clocks in the car changed when the cell phone is connected? This is how they solve the time change.

How to set the time in a car with Android Auto

Alberto answers us that regarding the time change in the car, several scenarios can occur: there are vehicles (the most modern) with an Internet connection that do it autonomously. It is also normal for vehicles with built-in Android Auto to automatically change the time when connecting the phone.

Another mechanism is that the manufacturer has programmed the time change in the clock (this happens on my Polo, but it does not work correctly and as I said above, it does not have Android Auto as standard ). And it’s rarer for the vehicle’s infotainment system screen to be changed, but not the central dashboard clock.

When does this last case occur? Well, even if that’s the case rare review In general, there is a clear case: that you have a screen that is not supplied as standard in your vehicleeither via an additional external screen like mine, or with a double DIN radio with integrated infotainment system.

However, what is normal if the screen comes from the factory of your car is that the automatic change occurs after connection. Be careful if you do this with a cable, because obviously when you get to the car after the time change, it won’t take effect until you plug it in.
