After you do the math, you’re essentially getting two new $60 games for just $90, a savings of around $30. In the modern world of Black Friday discounts, this isn’t a “door-opener” deal, but for Switch games that are new or rarely on sale, it’s a very good deal. You also get 5 percent back on e-shop purchases, so you still have $5 in virtual funds left over from the entire exchange. The only catch is that you have to buy two games and they have to be digital.
Which games are suitable for this trick? Nintendo updates the list of qualifying game vouchers on a rolling basis, but currently includes this fall’s big Nintendo releases such as: Super Mario Party Jamboree, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of WisdomAnd Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood. The vouchers also apply to games that will not be released until 2025, for example Donkey Kong Country Returns HD And Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. Browse the back catalog like it’s 2023 Super Mario Bros Wonder and which is normally $70 Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are also fair game, although some of these games will likely be discounted anyway as part of the normal holiday price cuts.
Another thing I like best about Switch game vouchers is that it feels like you’re getting a game for free as soon as you commit. Months after purchase, there’s still a free game voucher in your account that you can later redeem for something you wouldn’t normally have bought without feeling guilty. Remember that you need Switch Online to purchase the vouchers in the first place and they must be redeemed within 12 months.
