When it comes to Ubisoft, Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed come to mind. But another title has grossed sums one could only dream of.
Quarterly reports… always exciting. In the case of the currently struggling publisher Ubisoft, it was particularly exciting and in fact new figures were listed. This also includes the income of various Ubisoft brands over their entire lifespan and one title in particular stands out, namely Rainbow Six: Siege.
Word should have gotten around that the tactical shooter, which was released in 2016, is still extremely successful and is one of the most popular e-sports titles. But the amount that Rainbow Six: Siege has brought in over the course of its existence is surprising.
It turns out that Rainbow Six: Siege has now grossed a whopping 3.5 billion dollars. Yes, exactly, you didn’t read it wrong. This makes Rainbow Six: Siege the publisher’s second most successful brand. No joke. In front of it is the Assassin’s Creed series (yes, all games combined) with sales of 4 billion dollars. The Far Cry series follows in third place with 2 billion dollars.
Other titles that have at least exceeded the billion mark are The Division, Ghost Recon and Just Dance. There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for Rainbow Six: Siege; Ubisoft says that there are currently 30 million active users playing the game.
It’s almost unbelievable that a single game makes more money than one of the most successful game series ever. But it also makes it clear why Ubisoft keeps making attempts to launch more live service games. However, so far with little success. Hyperscape was discontinued relatively quickly and the current XDefiant is already suffering from dwindling player numbers.
