Play it on: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC
Current goal: Get some gaming spies for the season
This year Halloween fell on a Thursday and I was so busy with work and other things that I didn’t have much time for scary games in the days leading up to it. However, I still have a craving for interactive scares, so this weekend I’m hoping to play one of the seminal games in survival horror history, officially translated into English and released in the US for the first time: Clock tower
Actually, I don’t know much about the original Clock towerand I left it that way on purpose because I want to know as little as possible and find out for myself. It’s even scarier this way. But in short, it’s a 2D survival horror point-and-click game that tells the story of Jennifer, a teenage orphan who is adopted by a family with a big, scary mansion and by a terrifying creature called Scissorman is being pursued. With the release of WayForward you will be able to play an improved version of the game “that offers numerous gameplay additions and quality of life improvements” and I may take a look at that too, but for starters I will play in the original mode and experience the game is exactly as it was when it frightened so many Japanese gamers in 1995. Of course it’s November now, but I’ll linger a little longer at the end of October when everything is the same for you. – Carolyn Petit
