Gaming News Dragon Age The Veilguard: Will BioWare rise from its ashes with one of the best RPGs of 2024? Our final verdict on the video
This Thursday, October 31st, is not only Halloween, but also the day of the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a work that fans of the license have been waiting for for almost ten years now. At the beginning of the week we told you our verdict on this fourth part. In this article, we’ll briefly go over the pros and cons of this episode. In addition, at the top of the article you will find the video version of our test for anyone who wants to discover images of our in-house gameplay!
A structure that strikes the right balance between deep narrative and compact exploration
Last September we had the opportunity to be invited by Electronic Arts to preview the title, a hands-on experience that we had been eagerly awaiting since our first meeting Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian last June. After this test, we were able to partially identify the good ideas in this section, while highlighting some points that made us skeptical. After more than 50 hours of play in the sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisitionwe actually had confirmation of our doubts, while the title revealed more to us in certain points. On the character editor page: Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian had nothing left to prove It’s overflowing with options that allow you to create the hero you really want to embody, and even allows customizations that affect the conditions of the adventure from the start that we will start right away.
On this trip to the north of Thedas we were finally surprised by its classicism. Since it is divided into two acts, the progression in the first act proves somewhat unnecessary as it is time to recruit all the members of the eventual Guard of the Veil. Because of the racing, we had a little difficulty getting fully invested in the scenario, although it did provide us with some pretty epic moments at times, especially in the second part of the adventure. Where Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian runs better, from a narrative point of view it’s about everything that revolves around this adventure, namely the very numerous side missions that we can carry out (region quests, factions, companions). Through this we learn more about the story and the characters and see the high quality of the work of the BioWare teams.

The gameplay of Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not be unanimous and it is not that annoying
Despite returning to a more narrative and linear formula, BioWare ultimately gives us an adventure that we enjoy exploring. As I said, universe exploration and character development have a lot to do with it, which helps mitigate the reduction in exploration opportunities in comparison Dragon Age: Inquisition. Far from ignoring exploration entirely, Dragon Age: The Veil Guardian invites us to explore the mission locations and important plot locations to find a whole series of collectibles that will allow us to deepen the game mechanics (the equipment system, filling the codex, improving allied factions, developing the guard workshop). Ultimately, the balance between linearity and exploration works well.
We felt some disappointment with the action-oriented gameplay, which takes precedence over the franchise’s RPG heritage.. At times imprecise, quite clunky in the animation and somewhat lacking in depth, this film runs hot and cold. Still enjoyable at a high level and equipped with an intuitive tactics wheel that adds a bit of strategy and tactics to the clashes. The combat system can convince newcomers, but will probably frustrate many first-time fans. In the end there may have been something better to do, but fortunately this one fits well into the adventure and doesn’t weigh too heavily in the negatives column. Additionally on this list is: We can also mention slight ergonomic problems in the menus on consoles and interactions that hardly affect the relationships between characters.
