The Gears of War series is one of Xbox’s most popular franchises, and although development studio The Coalition recently announced Gears of War E-Day as the next title in the series, many fans are wondering what is arrived at Gears 6. In a recent IGN podcast, former Coalition leader Rod Fergusson talked about the studio’s plans for Gears 6 before leaving to work on Diablo 4.
According to Rod, the team was working on a story centered around the possibility of humans leaving the planet Sera, which had already been hinted at in Gears 5 thanks to space technology found in the game. This would have been a major turning point in the series , as Sera has been the main setting for most Gears of War games. However, it seems that this plan has been postponed for nowas Gears of War E-Day dates back to the start of the Locust War, 14 years before the events of Gears of War.
They created an ending with decisions, without clearly knowing what they were going to do with those player-made decisions.
In the same podcast, Rod also talked about the life or death decision in Gears 5, which was a key moment in the game’s story. According to him, the team hadn’t completely decided how that story would play out. would take place in the sequel and planned to let fans decide who would survive. In fact, the team had statistics on how many players chose each character, and they were willing to comply with the fans’ choice.
Although Gears 6 is not on the horizon at the moment, Rod assured that the team is not withdrawing from the new Gears saga, which means that one day we’ll see how Gears 6’s story plays out after all. In the meantime, fans of the series can look forward to the release of Gears of War E-Day, which promises to be an exciting and action-packed game.
According to Rod Fergusson:
The original plan was to go with Gears 6:

Fergusson didn’t know how to bring Gears’ story to fruition
Personally, I am one of those who think that Fergusson’s departure is a loss in terms of improving the gameplay of Gears, under his command the most fun gunplay in the franchise was born, but it must also be recognized that His leadership of the franchise has been a complete disaster with more than questionable decisions if we focus on the tone of the franchise and the main story.
We’re lucky that Hivebuster fixed a lot of the damage in Gears 5 and thanks to its success, this seems to be the path the franchise will take from now on. Next stop, Gears of War E-Day.
