The year is 2013. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe all over the world are flocking to the cinema to see Iron Man 3. The premise is promising: Tony Stark finally meets his archenemy from the comics, the Mandarin, in the third solo film.
But the supposed leader of the terrorist organization The Ten Rings suddenly turns out to be an illusion in the third act: It’s not the real Mandarin, but a puppet played by the fictional actor Trevor Slattery, who in turn is embodied by the very real Sir Ben Kingsley.
This plot twist upset many Marvel fans at the time. Nevertheless, Trevor Slattery, the character mime striving for global fame, will soon return to the big stage of the MCU
First trailer shows Trevor in his new role
The new Marvel series Wonder Man marks the great hour of the former fake mandarin. The show is about Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who is auditioning for the series Wonder Man.
Yes, you read that right: The real series Wonder Man is about the fictional series Wonder Man. This is so absurd and funny that Trevor Slattery simply cannot be missed here! The failed actor and temporary solo entertainer of the real Mandarin apparently acts as a mentor for Simon Williams in Wonder Man.

What else do we know about Wonder Man?
Marvel is giving us a real Christmas present next year: Wonder Man launches on Disney Plus on December 25, 2025
Very little is known about the plot: After Simon Williams auditioned for the role of Wonder Man, he suddenly gets real superpowers. Together with Trevor Slattery he will have to find his way in his new role.
The cast confirmed so far reads as follows:
- Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Simon Williams/Wonder Man)
- Sir Ben Kingsley (Trevor Slattery)
- Demetrius Grosse (Eric Williams / Grim Reaper)
- Ed Harris (Neal Saroyan)
- Lauren Glazier
- Josh Gad
- Byron Bowers
The series is designed and produced by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and will soon also film Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland in the lead role.
Wonder Man is directed by several people. In addition to Destin Daniel Cretton (episodes 1 and 2), Tiffany Johnson (The Beauty of Blackness) and Stella Meghie (The Photograph) have also been confirmed. Wonder Man will have a total of ten episodes.
By the way, there is an interesting detail about the plot of Wonder Man IMDB page revealed about the series. The actor Torrey Vogel is there as DODC Agent
listed. We already know the United States Department of Damage Control from Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel, among others. And let’s put it this way: the DODC isn’t exactly known for being likeable.
On the contrary, the fictitious federal authority has so far acted rather antagonistically in its efforts to keep people with superpowers in check and has not stopped at drastic measures to achieve its goal. No wonder Wonder Man is also targeted.
