Sylvester Stallone is a true action icon. The actor has stood in a boxing ring countless times (Rocky), chased after the mafia in police uniform (Cop Land) or returned from the Vietnam War as a traumatized veteran (Rambo).
In the film Cliffhanger – Only the strong survive Stallone was considered an indispensable member of the mountain rescue team in the Rocky Mountains. He was actually supposed to reprise his role in the planned reboot.
But now it is clear: Cliffhanger is reopened without Sylvester Stallone. But his replacement has already been determined.
Cliffhanger reboot has to do without Sylvester Stallone
A few days ago it was announced that the action legend will not return in his old role as mountain rescuer Gabe Walker in the new cliffhanger project (via Variety).
But the new line-up has already been found: Lily James (Mamma Mia! Here we go again, Cinderella) und Pierce Brosnan (James Bond 007 – The world is not enough, Mamma Mia!) climb the climbing paths as a father-daughter duo andsecure!
Roman Waugh (Angel Has Fallen, Greenland) was originally supposed to direct. However, this position is now taken over by Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown Identity, House of Wax).

On Paramount+ you can currently admire Sylvester Stallone as the mafia boss in Tulsa King. The second season of the series started there on September 15, 2024.
What is known so far about the cliffhanger
Mountaineer Ray Cooper (Brosnan) runs a luxury chalet in the mountains of Italy with his daughter Naomi (James). A weekend trip with a billionaire’s son ends in catastrophe because the group is targeted by criminals. Naomi escapes and has to face her fears to free her father from the clutches of the kidnappers.
In addition to James and Brosnan, the cast consists of the following actors:

The new script was written by Ana Lily Amirpour (The Bad Batch, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) geschrieben.
The project will be shot in Austria, Europey and Italy and will also be released in cinemas. However, an exact release date is not yet known. But we can probably expect the reboot in 2026 at the earliest.
In 1994, the original film even received three Oscar nominations for Best Sound, Best Sound Effects and Best Visual Effects. The work was also nominated for four Golden Raspberries: Worst Film, Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Supporting Actress and Worst Screenplay.
