On Monday, Joseph Bennett, the co-creator of the animated sci-fi drama, presented Scavengers ruleposted an update on the status of the series on Instagram. First, the bad news: Netflix passed up the opportunity to greenlight a second season of the Emmy-nominated series. Despite this setback, the creative team behind the series is still passionate about creating a sequel to the series, so much so that they have produced a spec trailer for a second season Scavengers rule could look like.
“Stand now, Scavengers rule will not be renewed for a second season,” Bennett wrote in his post. “I wanted to tell everyone straight up because I really love our fan base, they’ve been such huge champions for the show and I don’t want to let everyone down.”
Unsurprisingly, the concept trailer is great. In the trailer, presumably set some time after the end of the first season, we see glimpses of Azi harvesting an alien creature from a stalactite in a massive cave; an ornate spaceship with gold skulls landing on the surface of Vesta; the survivors of the crashed Demeter ship, which manipulates the planet’s local wildlife to transport cargo and supplies; and Ursula calmly enters a strange plant-like capsule that envelops her. We even catch a glimpse of Levi, everyone’s favorite biomechanical robot, reaching for a strange flying creature!
There’s not much to say, but it’s still reassuring that Bennett, co-creator Charles Huettner and the animation team at Green Street Pictures have a clear idea of where they want to go with the series. That means if and when there will be a second season Scavengers rule is ever produced.
“This is not the end. There is more story to tell, we are ready to do another season,” Bennett said after thanking everyone who worked on the series.
