For a long time I wanted to jump headfirst into Escape From Tarkov. Years of watching videos and live shows, assuming with fear and insecurity that this experience that I enjoyed so much from the sidelines was not made for me. However, the arrival of PVE mode changed everything. Several friends and acquaintances were the push I needed to embark on the adventure. And I did it!
I already told you how my first steps in Escape From Tarkov were. I chose the Bear faction. My companions and I found Kollontay at Ground Zero as soon as I started my first raid, literally. It was a fight that lasted several minutes until I died from a shot in the back. I managed to take out two SCAVs, but I don’t mind admitting that I was a drag on my teammates.
I’ve played quite a bit since then, although I’m still stuck on the initial missions in Ground Zero. I have not been able to enter TerraGroup with my PMC to complete the Saving the Mole mission or use the Extraction vehicle to complete the Burning Tire mission.
I was unable to survive the first confrontations against the SCAVs and it took me many games as SCAV to learn the map. In fact, today I already know Ground Zero like the back of my hand and I already have a route planned to complete both missions, but now it is almost impossible to do it alone… and it’s all the fault of the game itself.
The worst time to start in Escape From Tarkov
I have chosen the worst possible time to start playing Escape From Tarkov. The Halloween event has completely destroyed my first few hours of playing the game. I was able to enjoy several normal raids during the night of October 30, but the zombies had already arrived and little by little they invaded all the maps.
I will say it bluntly: zombies Escape From Tarkov They are the worst I have seen in a long time. They’re the antithesis of fun: kill sponges that can take a lot of body shots and quite a few headshots. And this is with experienced players, because for a new player it is tremendously difficult to survive the first encounter.
zombie mode Escape From Tarkov It’s an incredible idea and very well integrated in terms of story, but it couldn’t be worse executed. Zombies are bullet sponges, there are a lot of them (even after lowering the number by 20%), they run, they don’t count physical when being shot (nor do they flinch) and they have both superhero sight and hearing. This means that firing a single shot as a new player and/or SCAV is a death sentence. There is no way to save yourself.
You might think I’m exaggerating and that’s why I made sure I had artwork to prove it. On one raid I shot a group of eight or nine zombies at point-blank range with an MP-133 shotgun that was coming towards me almost in single file. It was aimed between the head and the chest at less than a meter. I fired six rounds at point blank range and it didn’t matter. They came to me and killed me. The raid didn’t even last three minutes. And so one raid after another until I was tired of dying and losing equipment with no real option to fight.
Battlestate Games didn’t think or didn’t want to think about new players. Nor in the veterans, because I have seen several content creators considered leaders in the field die repeatedly. Escape From Tarkov. And it’s not like there was anywhere to go because the entire map was infested, when it was supposed to be just The Lab. Luckily, an update activated a rotation of the only map free of zombies. It was Ground Zero for a few hours. I tried to finish the missions, but I wasn’t able to.
The truth is that I really want to play and improve in the PVE mode of Escape From Tarkovbut that’s impossible. I will always have the thorn of remembering such negative first hours and on top of that with a terribly bad event. And I know a little about zombies! In fact, it encouraged me to reinstall Left 4 Dead 2Back 4 Blood and World War Z to refresh me a little from all the time I’ve been offline.
I can’t wait for the Halloween event to be over. Escape From Tarkov to play the experience I really want to play and progress organically, not at the whim of the developers’ decision during a bad limited-time event. My friends and acquaintances will return as soon as the zombies disappear and then I will return to playing the video game that I so much want to enjoy with the company.
