The Babadook Director Jennifer Kent may helm the adaptation of ” Fierce ghosts chasing ghosts Cliver Barker, the creator, I really hope she is.
It’s no secret that when The Babadook isn’t becoming a queer icon, it’s usually a pretty good horror movie, and it turned ten earlier this year. Director Jennifer Kent recently spoke with io9 about the film’s tenth anniversary and the response a decade since its release, but the most interesting thing was her response when asked what’s next. “We’re about to announce something that’s going on,” Kent continued, “a movie based on a book. A very famous horror book. But I can’t really say much more at the moment.”

While Kent can’t reveal anything just yet, Reelworld is now claiming that the director is currently working on an adaptation of Clive Barker’s Forever Thieves. If you’re not a horror fan, you probably don’t know Barker’s name, but he’s famous for a few reasons: He’s the author of the iconic The Amityville Horror and wrote and directed the film adaptation of that work , and he was also responsible for the short story that the 1992 film Candyman was based on.
“Forever Thieves,” also released in 1992, tells the story of a 10-year-old boy who finds himself in a magical house, only to discover that its owner has some sinister intentions. It does sound like a book that would be suitable for Kent to adapt given his filmography, so hopefully the Reelworld reports are correct. It’ll likely be a while before we hear more about the film, so perhaps your best bet in the meantime is to celebrate its anniversary by rewatching The Babadook.
