One thing that SEGA and fighting fans in general have been clamoring for is a new entry in the classic Virtua Fighter series. The last game in the series to launch for consoles was Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown in 2021. With Street Fighter and Tekken having new installments on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, it’s probably time for a new entry. Today, in a new interview with VGC, SEGA’s head of global transmedia strategy, Justin Scarpone, confirmed that a new Virtua Fighter game is in development.
“So right now we have a suite of titles in development that fall into that legacy bucket, which we announced last year at The Game Awards; Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and we have another Virtua Fighter in development. And so it’s all very exciting. And then in certain cases we also do animated series or feature films to augment that and be part of those roadmaps.”
