If you’ve invested as much time into Pokemon TCG Pocket as we have, you’ve probably been trying to optimize your deck as much as possible. But instead of adding more basic Pokemon, or trying to squeeze in more big ones, you should look elsewhere to maximize your power.
We are talking about fossils. These cards may seem niche at first, but they provide some really strong versatility to many decks in the game, filling two main roles without taking away from the strong Pokémon core team energy. It doesn’t make sense for every deck, but for many it’s worth considering.

Here’s why. As trainer cards that can be placed on the board and benches, they provide a 40HP wall that can absorb a hit or two. However, unlike other basic Pokémon, they won’t be snatched away by Poké Balls when you’re looking for specific cards to power up. Best of all, you can discard them from the game at any time during your turn, so if you need that bench spot, you don’t have to wait for someone on your team to die before you start filling it up and draining energy furiously.
Additionally, you may have noticed that other players use Sabrina cards frequently. This is a great training option as it allows you to force swap out your frontline Pokémon for your bench Pokémon, allowing your opponent to snipe cards you didn’t want to play in the first place. With a fossil card, you can just swap it forward for a quick sacrifice. Sure, you lose a card and your opponent gains a point, but you don’t waste energy and can continue to build up your powerful Pokémon without having to worry about an unfortunate death.
There are three types of fossils, and you only need two of them to try it out. The same goes for any fossils, since you don’t want to use them as evolutionary material. Give it a try and let us know how it goes in the comments below!
