Do you want to create that image you have in mind but you don’t know how? Or, for example, congratulate a birthday in a very special way. Then Apple’s Playground app is for you. And if Apple has always been characterized by something, it’s by bringing the most advanced technologies closer to everyday use. This concept is what makes Apple Intelligence so special.
On the one hand, we have tools that allow us to improve our text, correct it, summarize it… But also Apple Intelligence has features you can take advantage of. For example, sending unique Genmoji or, yes, creating images with the Playground app. In this article we explain everything: how it works, which devices it is compatible with and much more.
What is Image Playground?
Image Playground is a standalone application that is part of Apple Intelligence features. Its objective is clear: create images through different texts or descriptions of themes that the app itself suggests. You can even create images from a photo of yourself. The operation is simple, as we will see below. It is specially designed for open our minds and our creativity. The interface is one of the best designed by Apple and will make children and adults have a good time; It can even be used to support illustrations in a work.
How does Image Playground work?
Image Playground is a standalone app which is available on our iPhone, iPad or Mac, provided they are compatible with Apple Intelligence. Later we will detail how to install it. The first step to creating a new image is to open the Image Playground app. Here we can start in two ways: write what we want who believes us or by adding the different suggestions he makes to us.
The ideal is to go there mix text and all theme optionsstyles, landscapes, finishes… that Image Playground offers us. The application will immediately start working on your image. For example, we will write “A house in the mountains”.
Image Playground will create different images from our text, and here we can add the themes that appear to us (summer, sunset, fantasy…). Furthermore, we can create images with two different styles: animation and illustration.
You can also upload a photo of you or a friend to create an image about it. Apple Intelligence will recognize its features and Image Playground will take care of capturing everything you ask. Because when you upload an image, you can add costumes, backgrounds, scenery, etc. to it.
To save or share an image you like, simply click on the … to see the different options. Remember, you can edit the image whenever you want add or remove these spheres and of course write everything that comes to mind.
Availability of Image Playground
As we have seen from the beginning, Image Playground is part of Apple Intelligence. Apple AI is currently only available in English. In Spanish it will arrive next April. You must therefore make an important decision here:
- Wait until April for the arrival of Apple Intelligence in Spanish.
- Install a beta version on your device and set it to English to try Image Playground.
How to try Image Playground today
The Apple Intelligence requirements to take advantage of Image Playground are:
- iPhone 15 Pro and later.
- iPad or Mac with M1 chip or later.
- Operating system iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 or macOS 15.2 or higher (in beta).
- Follow the steps to enable Apple Intelligence.
Install the beta version of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 or macOS 15.2
Image Playground is currently in beta phase of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 or macOS 15.2. Fortunately, installing a beta publicly is very simple. Basically, follow these steps:
- On your device, go to beta.apple.com.
- Sign up for the beta program.
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update and enable beta updates.
Finally, to be able to take advantage of Image Playground, you must activate Apple Intelligence. On the one hand, your operating system is already updated and only the essentials remain.
Trying Image Playground on your Mac is as easy as updating to macOS 15.2 (beta) and changing the system and Siri language to US English.
Enable Apple Intelligence on your Mac
Enabling Apple Intelligence on your Mac is as easy as install macOS 15.2 beta and change Mac and Siri language to English (USA). Then you can go to Apple Intelligence settings and enable it. In the apps you will find the Image Playground app. From there, it’s time to let the creativity flow.
Activate Apple Intelligence on your iPhone or iPad
If you want to try Image Playground on your iPhone or iPad, The procedures are a little more difficult if you reside in the European Union. If, on the other hand, you live in Latin America or, in short, in a non-EU country, everything will be much simpler.
Countries outside the EU: Update iPhone and iPad to iOS 18.2 beta. Next, set your iPhone and Siri to American English (United States). In Settings > Apple Intelligence, turn it on. Image Playground will now be ready to enjoy.
EU member countries: Here the steps become a little more complicated, since in addition to updating to the iOS 18.2 beta and setting the iPhone and Siri to English, you will need to have a newly created US Apple ID. With this Apple ID you will only have to log out of the App Store and log in with the new one from the United States. We have an article where we explain it in more detail.
As you saw, Mac is the best device for testing Image Playgroundsince by installing the beta version of macOS 15.2 and changing the language you will have access to it without complications. April may seem far away, but surely time flies, and then we will all be able to use Image Playground normally. Until then, here are the steps to try Image Playground first.
