Soulful accents inspired by Elden Ring, classic Comix Zone and more

The Ukrainian studio Bear Games is developing Comix Zero, a title which is inspired by Comix Zone in its design and some soulslikes where you will literally have to go through comics. An original proposal which aims to mix the metroidvania and soulslike subgenres in a very particular way.

Comix Zero is designed as an RPG, allowing you to tailor Zero’s skills and equipment to suit your playstyle. Drink consumables from the precious bodily fluids of defeated bosses. Craft powerful items and new weapons. Talk to NPCs to get various quests and rewards

FIGHT, DEATH, REPEAT

New equipment is useful, but it’s your skills that count. Comix Zero’s combat takes inspiration from games like Elden Ring, which reward precision over button mashing. You’ll probably be trying to mash buttons to get out of there anyway, so prepare to die. What were you trying to prove anyway?

DON’T FORGET ME

Comix Zero’s narrative is closely tied to the gameplay. Every time you die, Zero loses part of his memory and slowly forgets parts of his life. As memories fade, characters begin to react differently to Zero, leading to unexpected twists and turns and changing the game’s ending.

A BRUTAL WORLD FINDS ITS SAVIOR

In Comix Zero, ancient myths collide with humanity’s penchant for war crimes. Each faction has its own motivations and alliances, and you’re caught in the middle. It is a place where spells are created from human blood painted on human skin (excreted by a human). It’s not really a vacation spot.

A HERO WHO CAN’T TAKE ANYTHING SERIOUSLY

Comix Zero’s narrative is filled with nuanced characters, political intrigue, morally gray decisions, and real trauma. And then we had to make an absolute joke of it. Are you proud of yourself?

DID YOU UNDERSTAND THIS REFERENCE?

The god who brought our hero to the world of Comix Zero is obsessed with Earth mythology and pop culture. Keep an eye out for nods to everything from Greek gods to movie quotes to anime characters scattered throughout the game. Who knew gods had such sticky fingers?

Comix Zero will arrive on Xbox and Playstation consoles, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
