After testing a long list of GPS navigators in general and compatible with Android Auto in particular, Waze is in my opinion the best for its colorful interface on the one hand and, on the other hand, for its active community that keeps you informed of (almost) everything that happens on the road. But that This doesn’t mean Waze is perfect: Without going any further, its advertising is sometimes uncomfortable and the notifications are too numerous.
Make no mistake: Having Waze notify you of certain things is goodbut too many distractions while driving is not so much, so I have to prioritize and choose the ones that seem essential to me in Android Auto and turn off the others so that they don’t bother me while I’m driving.
This is how I keep Waze notifications at bay
First of all, when downloading and installing Waze on your mobile one of the permissions that must be granted is precisely that of notifications And yes, it’s a good idea to say yes as long as it’s good to report incidents like a blocked road to us.
It is also important to remember that Android Auto is the adaptation of the mobile phone to the car screen, so it should be taken into account to deactivate notifications from other applications that can be invasive and which also These Waze changes must be made on the mobile and not on the vehicle screen.
So, in the app on my Android mobile phone, I opened Waze and pressed the three-stripe button in the upper left corner. There, in ‘Settings‘ > ‘NotificationsThis is where you need to do the filtering since they are all enabled by default.
The notifications are classified by those that reach the mobile phone (Push Notifications) and those that reach the email, which should also be deactivated so as not to fill the email with straw, but it is a another story since they do not disturb the driver. The ones that interest us in this case are Push notifications and although the quickest and most radical would be to deactivate the first box (“Receive all Push notifications), the best thing to do is to choose leave the most important ones enabled.
There are up to 12 types of notifications in Waze, namely:
- funny advertisements. Games and special offers to keep you entertained during your trip.
- voice guides. Announcements of new voice guides, including those from celebrities.
- Traffic during public holidays. Tips for avoiding rush hour traffic.
- Track Waze alerts. Notification, promotion or special offer sent in response to an ad saved in the application.
- Withholding notifications. Notify detentions before leaving.
- Main traffic events. Closing alerts for events in your area, for example a concert or football match.
- Unusual traffic alerts. Notify you when your route and estimated arrival time are longer than usual
- Waze News and Updates. New information from your region or app news.
- Scheduled travel reminders. Smart reminders to make time for an upcoming trip or calendar event.
- Information about Waze Places. Ability to add information about sites you have visited.
- Natural disasters. Real-time information during natural disasters in your area.
- Community and comments. Invitations to special community events and requests for feedback to help improve the navigation platform.
Here I made it clear: I was interested in activating holiday traffic, traffic jams, unusual traffic, scheduled trip reminders and natural disasters. However, you can choose, uncheck and mark those that interest you.
