We all know Sony’s PSN requirement for PC is unpopular, but the company has made it clear it has no intention of doing away with it in the future.
Sony faced a bit of a PR crisis earlier this year when it announced that it would force Hellraiser 2 players to connect the game to a PSN account, even though the game had been out for months. Sony quickly walked back that decision, but later releases, including the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster, retained the requirement despite the game being single-player. This constant inclusion of this requirement has resulted in many of Sony’s flagship games ending up with some pretty mixed reviews on Steam, but that hasn’t changed the company’s plans, as Sony president Hiroki Totoki said in a recent investor call It was made clear in the meeting why it had this requirement in the first place.

“We learned a lot,” Totoki said (thanks to PC Gamer). “With PC issues, like the PlayStation accounts we offer, there’s sometimes resistance to offering them. But for live streaming games, in order to maintain the order of the game, in order for anyone to enjoy the game safely, we need to create [an] an environment conducive to this, [and] Of course you can enjoy the game freely.
“There are some restrictions— [we] Might not call them rules – but rather ways in which users and gamers are asked to follow and [that] Balance is very important. We must continue to seek the best ways to achieve this goal. As PC Gamer points out, this is translated live, but it’s clear what Totoki is saying here is that the PSN requirement is here to stay. This will obviously continue to be frustrating for a lot of gamers, as there are still a lot of people living under There are even countries where there are no PSN accounts, although Steam is available there.
For others who can get an account but just don’t want to, I’m sure Sony is just waiting for them to stop caring. I’m sure it’s affordable.
