You can either convince Mythal to give you his essence or fight its dragon form to obtain it during the Dreadwolf’s Regrets quest in Dragon Age: The Veilkeeper.
We strongly recommend that you convince her with the right one Mythal answers during the Dreadwolf’s Regrets quest, instead of fighting her, as Mythal will assist you in the fight against the Revenant Dragon at the end of the Heart of Corruption quest if you keep her alive. Since this is perhaps the hardest fight in the entire game, you’ll need all the help you can get.
If you find that you have selected an incorrect answer and Mythal gets angry, don’t worry, you don’t have to fight her. Simply reload your most recent temporary decision save from the main menu, as this is automatically created once you speak to Mythal in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Dragon Age The Veilguard Mythal Answers
Once you have listened to Morrigan and known the truth about Mythal, follow the quest marker to Mythal’s fragmented location where you can either fight her for her essence or convince her that you are worthy of receiving her essence.
You need the essence of Mythal if you want to unlock a third alternate ending in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
As mentioned above, we highly recommend trying to convince Mythal to hand over the essence instead of fighting her, as this means she will be there to lend you a hand against the returning dragon in the side quest Heart of Corruption.
When you’re ready to convince her, here’s the right one Mythal responds in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- I want your help.
- Solas helps me > I forgot about it.
- We must stop the scourge > You opposed it.
- We must stop the Gods > Put the scourge aside?
- We are worthy > Build a safe place.
There are other dialogue options you can choose to convince Mythal, but this is what worked for us.
Once you have received Mythal’s favor and its essence, the side quest Regrets of the Dreadwolf is complete and you will be able to choose a third alternate ending in the final moments of the game. Since you did not fight it, you also have Mythal’s Favor, meaning it will melt and help you against the Revenant Dragon at the end of the Heart of Corruption side quest.
Good luck for the rest of your journey through Thedas!
