Unanimous opinions
The bet was pretty daring. In fact, the character of Penguin only appears for about ten minutes in Matt Reeves’ film. But the actor’s performance, praised by critics, enabled the start of a very successful series. We discover the vision of a villain much less known than the famous Joker. And the specialist media agree: The Penguin is a real success. Le Point gives an impressive 4.5/5 and pays tribute to a series that is essential.”as one of the best of this decade“. Ecran Large gives a very good 4/5 and explains: “it is an ideal sequel to The Batman“. With the same note, the Obs highlights the playing of Colin Farrell, who has a “amazing supervillain” and Le Journal du Geek adds: “Lauren LeFranc creates a successful social fresco that does not refuse to resort to caricature in order to pay homage to its marginalized people“.
In France and around the world, the spin-off series seems to have won over the majority of the media. It holds a 95% rating on the website RottenTomatoes from more than 189 reviews. This is just huge for the content of the website. And the spectators did not miss the call. Out of more than 1000 reviews, The Penguin has 92% positive reviews. And it is the same observation at Allociné with a very good rating of 4.4/5 from more than 500 comments.
A quality casting
Even though the penguin is played by the famous Colin Farrell, the rest of the cast is just as strong. We find Cristin Milioti (How I met your mother), who plays Sofia Falcone, who is ready to rule as a baroness of organized crime, as well as Rhenzy Feliz (American horror stories) in the role of Victor Aguilar, Penguin’s young stuttering protégé. We can also note the presence of Michael Kelly (House of cards), Shoreh Aghdashloo (The Lady and the Dragon) or even James Madio (The offer).
