An Elden Ring fan has set the ambitious goal of reproducing part of the game on Unreal Engine 5, and the result is truly magnificent.
With Elden Ring releasing in 2022 and the Shadow of the World Tree DLC this summer, it seems very unlikely that a remaster of the game on Unreal Engine 5 will be in the works any time soon. However, this did not stop one fan from taking part in the exercise, with an amazing and, above all, impressive result, considering how quickly a single person did such a good job.
Elden Ring in all its glory on Unreal Engine 5
While Elden Ring is clearly not a technical benchmark, FromSoftware’s work on its art direction is undeniable. The colossal open world of Entre-Terres gives us breathtaking scenes in every corner… as long as you don’t look at them closely. The textures are actually a bit outdated and yet FromSoftware’s masterpiece seems unstable in terms of frame rate, especially on consoles.
Konariin, a fan of the game, therefore took on the challenge of recreating Elden Ring on Unreal Engine 5 in order to scale things up. In a fascinating video he documents all the work he did in record time. In particular, he explains to us the process of creating his unofficial “remaster” (and more precisely the sublime region of Liurnia) and the limitations that come with it. Therefore, we can see the progress of this Elden Ring recreation before our eyes, with a frankly impressive end result.
Unreal Engine 5 really makes this already charming area of Elden Ring shine. We notice this particularly at the level of much more detailed textures. While Konariin is pleased with his Express work, he admits that it didn’t really do justice to the masterful art direction of the original game. In fact, it’s not Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware who want this. The result still makes us dream about the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 and delight our eyes.
