Farming Simulator 25 has sold 2 million copies – more than Alan Wake 2

Remedy Entertainment – the developer of the excellent Alan Wake 2 – recently held a Capital Markets Day event for investors and financial media. At this event, a lot of interesting information was revealed, including that Control 2 is an action role-playing game, and that the aforementioned Alan Wake 2 has sold a whopping 1.8 million copies!

These aren’t bad numbers by any means, but I wanted to draw your attention to a game that you may not have heard of at all. Farm Sim 25! It’s the latest entry in what many consider a niche farming game series, having sold an eye-popping 2 million copies since its release on November 12, 2024. Oh my gosh, this was actually last week.

Now, don’t ask me to put two intense games together. They are all lovely and worthy of the success they have achieved. But it does beg the question of why one game is considered a standout critical darling while another barely gets any attention outside of its own community. Of course, I was involved. I have as much merit in writing an article on Tekken 8 as on Farming Simulator 25, both games are popular for their interesting community stories.

Maybe it’s perception. Despite its high sales, the nature of Farming Simulator 25 may have inherited niche assumptions. But Farming Simulator 25 isn’t alone in this weird place – look at Steam and you’ll see the likes of Disney Dreamlight Valley, the Hearts of Iron 4 expansion pack, and foxhole

Among the best-selling products. All games have a large number of players, but not a huge amount of hype. To counter this argument, perhaps it comes down to a simpler reason. It’s also worth noting that Alan Wake 2 hasn’t been released on Steam yet! This is probably a big reason why so many PC players are willing to join in and give it a try.

This isn’t a new development, nor is it a dire sign for the game. Quite the opposite in fact, it goes to show that you don’t have to be the hottest AAA release to gain fans and be successful. But it’s interesting how some games get a lot of attention while others disappear on their own. Alan Wake 2 and Farming Simulator 25 both performed well and appealed to different audiences. I think, this is really awesome.

Obviously, we warmly congratulate Farming Simulator 25 on its huge success and attracting so many players. Congratulations to Remedy and Alan Wake 2 for continuing to work on Control 2 and other exciting projects. I wonder which one will do better: Farming Simulator 2026 or Control 2? Only time will tell.
